Wrong Fortunes Preview

This is the prologue of Wrong Fortunes. I especially loved writing this prologue because I had been in a slump when it came to me. I haven’t had writers block since.
Lee Higgins woke up with the worst headache he could ever remember having. He couldn’t remember how or why he got there, but as he examined his surroundings, it all came back to him. Vegas was the last place we should have gone, he thought. They were sitting in their rental car that they had gotten a few nights before, but there was one major problem. As Lee looked out the windshield, he saw water, and it wasn’t because it was raining. It looked as if his car had somehow been pushed out into the middle of a lake with him still in it. Water was steadily pouring in through the seals of the car, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get a door or a window to open. As he looked to the right, his heart sank. Trish was knocked out in the passenger side seat. Was this their payment for their involvement with the CIA? He truly had thought that all of this danger was over, but now there was no doubt about it. They were going to die. He quickly shook Trish awake.
“What’s going on?” Trish asked as she clutched her head.
“Have a look for yourself.”
“Oh, my God!” Trish exclaimed. She looked absolutely hopeless.
“I’m so sorry. I should have found a way to protect us. We should have listened to Sam.”
“It’s not your fault, Lee, and it’s not over. There’s still hope.”
“How do you figure that?”
“She’s still out there.”
“I don’t know if that’s much hope. We left things pretty bad with Sam.”
The couple continued to talk and try to find a way out of the car as it filled up with water. With every breath, they lost more and more oxygen until neither of them felt as if they could breathe anymore.
“Well, I really enjoyed our time together. I love you, Trish,” Lee said while leaning his head back and closing his eyes. Suddenly, he heard a crack and felt the cold running over him!

Wrong Regrets Preview

This one comes from Wrong Regrets. I loved being able to write about Zane in his younger years. In this passage, we get to see just what Zane is capable of, but he might have some big problems, too.
When he finally made it to the other side, he could see that he didn’t have long. The men who were trying to get into the house had almost gotten through the door. He quickened his pace. When he got to the car, he crouched down and tried to open the door as quietly as he could. Thanks to all the noise from the men beating on the door, they heard nothing from Zane. He collected a very special weapon that Faith didn’t think would come in handy. How wrong she had been. He took his weapons case that held a long range rifle and walked back into the woods. Zane found a good viewpoint and got down on the ground. Once he was set up, he looked through the scope. He hadn’t noticed it before, but the men in front of him were Asian. Everyone truly is after this guy, Zane thought. Just when he was about to pull the trigger, he started to feel really dizzy. The towel he was given wasn’t doing much to stop the bleeding. Soon he wouldn’t even be able to stay awake. He pushed his feelings aside as best he could. Now wasn’t the time to concentrate on his injury. He placed the crosshairs of his scope directly on the first man’s head and smiled. “It’s show time,” Zane said. Then he fired and watched as the man died in front of him. They attempted to hide as he was cutting them down, but it did no good. They were sitting ducks, and before long, all of them were dead. By this time, Zane was starting to feel like he, too, was on death’s door. He slowly staggered out of the woods and started walking toward the cabin.
“Zane, are you okay?” Faith asked as she stepped out of the cabin.
Zane didn’t answer. The world started to rock back and forth, and he felt himself slipping away. He fell down to the ground.
   “Zane!”

Wrong Life Preview

This is the end of a chapter in Wrong Life. At the time, I had no idea how they were going to get out of that house, but it was certainly interesting to find out.
“A truck full of people just pulled up, and they don’t look like ours. Jess and Burt are trying to barricade the doors right now, but we’re going to need a way to defend ourselves.”
Robert quickly led Michael to the gun cabinet. It was full of hunting rifles.
“Well, I guarantee you that they’re working with a little better weaponry, but you have to make do with what you have, I guess,” Michael said while loading a shotgun and then handing Robert a gun of his own.
Once the two men had gathered the weapons and passed them out to everyone, Michael motioned for everyone to be quiet. Footsteps could be heard outside, but they didn’t seem to be exclusive to one location.
“I think they’re surrounding the house,” Jess whispered.
“I think that all of you should go hide somewhere. I’ll take care of this,” Michael said.
No one budged, though. They weren’t about to leave Michael alone. As they sat there waiting for an intruder to burst through the door, an odd smell began to fill the air that was followed by the sight of smoke. The men had surrounded the outside of the house. Not for some tactical approach, but instead because they were setting it on fire at all angles.
“What do we do now?” Kate asked.
Michael just stood there frozen. They couldn’t go outside because they would be killed, but they certainly couldn’t stay in the house either.
“I don’t know,” Michael finally said with a lost look in his eyes.
“I’ve got an idea, but I don’t know if it’ll work,” Robert said.
“I’m open to any suggestion at this point,” Michael said.
“All right. Everyone come with me.”
As they started to follow Robert, Michael feared for the worst. Are we really going to burn to death, Michael wondered.

Wrong Time Preview

Here’s a preview of Wrong Time. For the first time, we see Chloe in action here. At the time, I never knew that Chloe would end up being one of my favorite characters.
Back in Lee’s hospital room, evening was quickly approaching, and Michael and Lee had fallen asleep. Jess, on the other hand, decided that now would be a good time for a shower. She made her way into the bathroom and started to turn the water on. As she reached for the shower knob, she heard the hospital room door open. Chloe was walking straight up to Lee. She had walked right past the hospital staff. At this point, the staff had given up on limiting the visitors in Lee’s room. As Jess took a peek out from behind the bathroom door, she saw Chloe raise a small pistol and aim it at Lee’s head. Jess didn’t have time to think. She only had time to act. She slung the door open and jumped onto the girl’s back, effectively tackling her to the ground. As Michael and Lee woke from their sleep, they saw the horrifying sight of Jess and Chloe wrestling on the ground for control over the gun, and that’s when it happened. In the struggle for the power over the weapon, it went off.

Wrong Place Preview

I thought I would post some snippets from my books in celebration of Wrong Missions release. This one is from Wrong Place. If you haven’t already checked out the Wrong Series, I hope the prologue will tempt you into checking it out. Look forward to more updates and previews throughout the day.
I found myself rushing desperately toward room 112, hoping that I wasn’t too late. How could I have possibly left her there alone, I wondered. There was really no time to debate the right or wrong of my decision now. I had to act. Not that I knew what I was going to do when I got there. Just a few weeks ago, I was only a normal guy. My biggest worry then was how to dodge phone calls from my odd friend Michael and what to tell my family I was doing with my life in order to get them off my back. Now I was in a life or death situation, and I feared that I was ill-equipped to handle it.
I could see the deep red light of the motel sign ahead. I rushed into the parking lot and started making my way as fast as I possibly could to the room. As I walked, I pulled a small handgun from the waistband of my jeans. God, I hate these things, but here goes, I thought. Once I was outside the room, I took a deep breath and tightened my grip on the gun, a gun so small it would likely only be laughed at by this intruder. I put my hand on the doorknob and slowly opened the door. There, in the darkness, I could see her. She was tied to a chair, and a rather large man was standing behind her pressing a gun to her head. All I could think was, “Oh, my God, Sam!” It was at that moment that I heard it. A shot rang out, echoing into the furthest reaches of my mind. Shocked, all I could do was stand there staring in disbelief at what had just happened, and in almost the same moment, I felt a pain in the back of my head. Then there was nothing.
