I’m officially on vacation, but I
thought I would take some time to explain some things about the characters in
my books because I seem to get very mixed reactions to them. People either seem
to absolutely love them or hate them. I’ve heard some people say that these characters
are believable as everyday people, and I’ve heard others say that they don’t
fit the normal role of a CIA agent or police officer. I wanted to show people
who these characters are and why anyone who thinks they don’t fit into the role
of an “average” agent is right. I wrote these stories as an escape from
reality, and as that escape from reality, I didn’t include any of real life or
television shows in them. When you see an agent or police officer act a certain
way on television, that’s great, but I was looking to make more imperfect
people who were in a very fictional environment. I wasn’t worried about realism
because I have enough of that in my own life, and to be honest, if I, or any
writers for that matter, were honest about what was realistic, every character
in any action oriented story would be dead by the end of the book. So this is
me officially introducing you to my characters in the way I see them.
Nathan Grey is a normal man who
lacks direction and has very little confidence. He doesn’t like to speak in
front of people, and he definitely gets stumped when he talks to unfamiliar
women. He may be imperfect, and he certainly doesn’t match the ideal love story
muscle man that you see on the cover of every book, but he is very intelligent
and caring. He’s also a lot more capable than he thinks he is.
Samantha Fisher is a CIA agent who
has a very troubled past. She doesn’t understand much about how the world works
due to her past. She acts like she has it all together and that she’s always
all right, but underneath that, she’s not very far removed from being an
average woman. Normal isn’t exactly a word that she associates with herself
because of her physical abilities, but her wants and needs are the same as
anyone else, even if she doesn’t always say it.
Trisha Morris is a woman who is very
intuitive, and she cannot stand people who are all muscle and no brains. She
finds herself working for the wrong side, but there is a certain goodness in
her that shines through when it matters. Throughout the Wrong Series, more and
more is revealed about who she is and where she came from.
Lee Higgins is one of Nathan’s best
friends. He is computer whiz who has never quite figured out how to fit in
among most people. He’s not the toughest man in the world, which is surprising
considering the fact that he’s a pretty large guy, but he is loyal. His
struggle to belong and his useful tech skills are shown all throughout the
series.
Michael Ross is Nathan’s best
friend. He never fit in when he was younger, but he joined the military shortly
after graduating high school. He received great training in the service and
became the man that he had always thought he wanted to become, but through a
traumatic event, he found himself right back at square one. When you think of
Michael, you should think of him as somewhat of a klutz and a loose cannon, but
there is still a lot of potential in him.
Jessica Rogers is a woman who
Michael loves dearly, but unfortunately for him, she does not reciprocate those
feelings. She’s a natural born caregiver, and she’s extremely intelligent.
She’s not the most capable fighter, but her intelligence and heart make her
more than enough to be useful in any situation.
Zane Green is a battle-hardened
soldier who has literally seen everything there is to see. Most men would have
quit doing what they were doing long before, but he has nothing else but his
work. He’s oddly sensitive about his height, even though he’s only slightly
shorter than the average man. He’s also extremely intelligent, but a certain
doubt and regret always follows him.
Dan Driver is a CIA agent who has
had a few issues with authority in the past, but overall, he’s excellent at
what he does. Zane sees himself in Dan to a certain extent. He has no life
outside of his work, and he always takes his job seriously. He does have some
weird and almost childish habits, too, but the truth about that is that he only
needs that side of himself because he is serious about everything else.
Marcus Boyd is a billionaire who
most would think of as an extremely successful businessman, but he harbors a
dark secret both in his past and in his present. His past was enough to both
scar him and motivate him to be much more than anyone could have ever dreamed.
He has the heart of a snake and the wickedness to put almost anyone down. He
does have a soft side for anyone who has suffered like him, however.
The Wrong Series as a whole is
designed to have plenty of romance and action in it. It doesn’t shy away from
wacky moments either. I enjoy throwing in a quick laugh occasionally. That can
put some people off, but ask yourself something. Do you really want to read a
book that is negative the whole way through, because I don’t want to write them
that way. I’ve seen a great response to my character’s interactions, and that
makes me feel good because I put a lot of effort into making sure that these
characters interacted with each other in a real and honest way.
Now I would like to show you who the
Strange Visions characters are.
Trent
Roberts is a very unpopular young man who is hopelessly in love with Ally
Baker. There’s only one problem with that. He knows that she would never have
the slightest interest in someone like him. Between getting bullied, and in
general feeling like nothing, Trent is running out of reasons to get up in the
mornings. A very strange thing happens one day that changes everything, and
suddenly, the one person he loves is within reach. When he encounters a
mystery, he finds that his new gift is capable of much more.
Ally Baker is an extremely popular
senior at New Hope High School, and she dates Dan Addams who was Trent’s
childhood bully. In contrast to Dan, she is kind to almost everyone. Despite
her image of always being nice and put together, she has a very different side
to her that most never see. She can be a bit hotheaded and impulsive at times.
She also puts too much stock in what people think of her. She has a lot of
growing up to do, but she is still the kindest person in Trent’s world, and
before it all ends, he will do everything to make her his world.
Dan Addams is an extremely angry
young man who has tormented Trent since they were children. His fits of anger
are a result of something in his own life, but that doesn’t help the people
that he torments. Throughout the series, he grows a lot as a character, but there
is always a certain anger in him. The only question is if he will ever be able
to aim all of that anger in the right direction.
John Roberts is Trent’s little
brother, and he is everything that Trent’s dad wants out of a son. He’s an
athlete. John often enjoys poking fun at his brother, and in general, has a lot
of growing up to do, but he has a lot of natural potential to succeed, and he’s
always there for anyone when they really need him.
The Strange Visions Series as a
whole is about unlikely people doing great things. At its core, it may look
like a simple mystery, but it mixes Sci-Fi, action, romance, and comedy
elements all into the story. It shouldn’t be taken as an extremely adult series
because I tried to write this so that younger and older readers could enjoy it.
Hopefully no one will read this expecting to read something similar to the same
“who done it” style book because that’s not what this is. It’s a story about
some friends who find themselves in unique situations, and thanks to Trent, they
have a chance to save several people’s lives.
I think that about covers
everything. There are plenty of other character that I love in the books, but I
don’t want to spoil the books too much, so I’m going to leave them out for now.
I really like all of the rest of them, however. I hope that anyone who decides
to read my books loves these characters as much as I do, and most of all, I
hope they don’t go into reading it expecting complete realism or for it to be
like your standard mystery or CIA novel. It’s not, and these characters are
imperfect, but that’s why I love them. I’ve enjoyed getting to know them more
than anything else, and I hope that you will, too.
