Wrong Place Preview

I thought I would post some snippets from my books in celebration of Wrong Missions release. This one is from Wrong Place. If you haven’t already checked out the Wrong Series, I hope the prologue will tempt you into checking it out. Look forward to more updates and previews throughout the day.
I found myself rushing desperately toward room 112, hoping that I wasn’t too late. How could I have possibly left her there alone, I wondered. There was really no time to debate the right or wrong of my decision now. I had to act. Not that I knew what I was going to do when I got there. Just a few weeks ago, I was only a normal guy. My biggest worry then was how to dodge phone calls from my odd friend Michael and what to tell my family I was doing with my life in order to get them off my back. Now I was in a life or death situation, and I feared that I was ill-equipped to handle it.
I could see the deep red light of the motel sign ahead. I rushed into the parking lot and started making my way as fast as I possibly could to the room. As I walked, I pulled a small handgun from the waistband of my jeans. God, I hate these things, but here goes, I thought. Once I was outside the room, I took a deep breath and tightened my grip on the gun, a gun so small it would likely only be laughed at by this intruder. I put my hand on the doorknob and slowly opened the door. There, in the darkness, I could see her. She was tied to a chair, and a rather large man was standing behind her pressing a gun to her head. All I could think was, “Oh, my God, Sam!” It was at that moment that I heard it. A shot rang out, echoing into the furthest reaches of my mind. Shocked, all I could do was stand there staring in disbelief at what had just happened, and in almost the same moment, I felt a pain in the back of my head. Then there was nothing.

Wrong Mission

Here’s the beginning of my newest book, Wrong Mission. I hope you’ll all check it out. It’s one of the best entries in the series, and I think that you’ll love it!
Nathan and Sam were crouched down behind their couch waiting on the worst possible situation to come knocking at their door.
“So what’s the plan for getting out of here?” Nathan asked.
“I have no idea. I just hope that Michael and Jess get away with Emma and Evan safely. I don’t know what we would do if something happened to them.”
“They’re going to be fine. It’s just a short distance to the water. There’s no way they won’t make it. We need to be more concerned with how we’re going to get out of this situation.”
“I know, but I don’t see an easy way out. As a matter of fact, it’s not too late for you to get away, Nathan. You should catch up with them and escape while you can.”
“No way! I could never leave you. We’re in this together for better or worse.”
Sam wished that he would just go because she had a bad feeling about that night. As a matter of fact, she was sure that they were only going to be buying time for their children and friends to escape. Tonight was going to be the death of them, and she knew it. Just then, they heard footsteps on the front porch, and then they heard a loud bang on the door as it splintered open.
“This is it, Nathan! We have to go all out if we’re going to have any chance of getting out of here,” Sam said as she rose up from their hiding spot and picked off the first man coming through the door. Nathan quickly pulled her down into cover again. Just as he did, bullets covered the wall behind them. It was obvious that their enemies were using automatic weapons. Nathan and Sam didn’t stand a chance.
“What are you doing, Nathan? We have to do what we can to buy Michael and Jess some time,” Sam said.
“We’re outnumbered and outgunned. We don’t have a choice but to give up.”
“No, that’s not . . .” she said before Nathan cut her off.
“Trust me, Sam.”
She nodded hesitantly. Sam knew that he was right. They didn’t stand a chance in this situation, but she feared that these men might not be the merciful types.
“We’re laying down our weapons, and I’m about to stand and give up. Please, don’t shoot,” Nathan said.
He slowly got to his feet and made sure to keep his hands visible at all times. That’s when Sam heard the worst possible thing. A shot cried out, and Nathan fell to the floor. She couldn’t immediately tell, but it looked like Nathan Grey was dead!

Homeschooling

A lot of you may not know this, but I was homeschooled. I wanted to discuss what I got out of the experience today. Some people view homeschooling as an excuse for children to quit school, while others view it as a great alternative to the public education system. The truth is that results may very from child to child, and like with anything, it has its ups and downs.
I’ll start with the bad things first. I was isolated to some extent, and no, I never grew into this awkward kid who hated people, but it did lead to some changes in me. I’ll never be the life of the party, and I hate talking in front of more than a few people. I’m much more reserved than the average man. In some ways, that’s a good thing, and in others, it’s not. For example, I often overthink things before I speak. This has led to me not saying anything at all in certain situations, but it has also prevented me from saying something before I thought it through. The number one mistake that people make in this world is not thinking before they speak. I don’t make that mistake often. Having said that, the number two mistake people make is not speaking up when they need to. I often find myself in that situation. For a long time, I was too shy to talk to that girl who was a little out of my league, and I didn’t have enough confidence to make a speech or anything like that. I don’t know if that was because I was isolated, but it could have been.
Now, for the good things . . . When I was a teenager, and I was being homeschooled, I was like most boys my age. I was easily distracted, and quite honestly, I was lazy. I tried to go back to a public school in the ninth grade, but something about teachers droning on and on about things that didn’t interest me as I sat in an uncomfortable wooden desk for hours on end, made me kind of wish I was somewhere else. At that point, I decided traditional school wasn’t for me. Here’s the thing, though. I didn’t quit on life or learning. I got involved in a correspondence program called American School where I was able to get an accredited diploma. It didn’t take long to do the courses, and best of all, it left me with time to do the things I really cared about. I loved writing, sports, and yes, the same thing every teenage guy loves, videogames. I spent so much of my teen years exploring poetry, short stories, and sports that I knew exactly what I cared about by the time I was grown. I didn’t know how to apply that yet in life, but I knew who I wanted to be in life. That’s the problem with public education. They ask you what you want to do when you grow up and then they tell you the many reasons why you can or cannot accomplish your dreams. Most of those reasons don’t involve how good you actually are at doing the thing you care about - they involve what you scored on a test that usually has nothing to do with the thing you want to do. During the time I was getting my standardized education, I was also getting a different type of education. I was being educated on who I was and what I could do. I lacked for confidence, but in my heart, I knew that I was capable of a lot of things, and no amount of tests or degrees were needed for me to pursue my dreams . . . and more importantly, for me to be happy.
To recap, homeschooling made me withdraw from people to some extent, and you might even say that it made me unfit to be the guy who stares out the window from his office all day, but it also gave me something. It allowed me to dream and develop the skills that I really care about. Along the way, I also found that I didn’t need dozens of teachers to tell me how to do English, Algebra, and Biology. I could figure that out, and when the sluggish lesson plans were taken away, I could do it in a much quicker timeframe. I think we all can because when you stop being forced to learn, and you allow yourself to learn everything you can as the desire comes to you, it’s not work, and you’re certainly not sitting in a prison masquerading as a classroom. Now, don’t get me wrong. The public education system is absolutely great for most people, but if you’re like me and walls bother you, and all you want to do is be able to dream and then work to make those dreams a reality, an A B or C grade given out by a random instructor isn’t exactly the accomplishment you’re looking for.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you guys understand my viewpoint on the education system. In a way, I’m still learning things at my own pace, and I don’t know where that’s going to lead, but I think we should all approach education in that way because the day you aren’t schooling yourself and becoming a better rounded person is the day that you need to really be worried about where you’re going in life.

Book News

I thought it might be a good idea to update everyone on what I’ve been doing as far as books are concerned. I’m still hard at work on making Wrong Mission the best book it can be. The truth is that it’s done. I’ve gone through it frontward and backward, but I want it to be as close to perfect as possible, so I’m still nitpicking some last minute things.
There’s a lot more going on than just Wrong Mission, though. I’m going back through Wrong Place and redoing it. I was very inexperienced when I wrote my first book, and there are a few errors in it, as well as a few things that I would have said differently. I also thought it might be a good idea to add a few words to the book. There were some moments where I thought I could have expanded a little more on the characters’ thoughts, and that’s just what I’ve been doing. It’s been fun to go back to the first story I ever wrote and see it through different eyes. I know Nathan and Sam so much better than I did back then, so when I finish redoing this book, I know that it will be better than it was before. That’s not the only reason I’m redoing Wrong Place, though. I plan to redo the first three Wrong books and eventually release all of them in a box set. The first three literally pick up where the last one leaves off, so it just makes sense to do a box set of them. It might take a while to do that because I have so many other things going on, but I’m really looking forward to packaging them together.
Besides that, I’m working on getting the final Wrong book ready for release. I can’t tell you guys too much about it because it would spoil a lot of Wrong Mission, but I think it’s coming along nicely. There is another project I’m working on. It’s an untitled book that is set roughly fifty years in the future, and no, there are no flying cars. The world looks far different than you may expect in this book. I don’t really know what I would qualify it as. It has some sci-fi elements, but it mainly concentrates on developing great characters while still presenting non-stop action. The first half of the book is probably the most action filled few chapters of a book that I’ve ever written. I can’t wait for you guys to meet my main character in this book. His name is Alex.
Outside of editing books, I’m also writing an entirely different book in my spare time . . . not that I have much of it. This book is a spy novel. I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I’m just finishing up with a series focused on spies, but this book is a lot different than the Wrong Series. I thought it might be fun to go back to my comfort zone when it came to writing a new book.
I think I have an outline of what I want to do in the future when it comes to writing. I want to write one book that is really outside of my comfort zone and then write one that is familiar to me. In a way, that’s what I’ve already been doing. I told myself that I would never write anything to do with psychics or to do with a futuristic world. One of my new books is very futuristic, and the Strange Visions Series is all about a young man I never thought I would grow to feel so comfortable writing about.
There are so many other things that I could tell you guys about that I’m going to be working on in the future, but I’ll leave some things to the imagination. Thanks for reading, and I hope that you’ll check out my books if you haven’t already.

Wrong Mission Announcement

Today I’m announcing everything about my new book, Wrong Mission. It has taken me a while to get Wrong Mission exactly where I want it. It’s actually been written since back in October, but I’ve been editing tirelessly and trying to make it the best it can be. Have I probably picked it apart too much? Yes, but I’m hoping that everyone will read this book and think it’s the best one yet. Here’s the description of Wrong Mission.
Wrong Mission is set four years after the events of Wrong Fortunes. When Michael and Jess mysteriously show up at Nathan and Sam’s door for a supposed visit, it quickly becomes apparent that something much bigger is going on. As time passes, they will discover Michael and Jess’s true mission in Hawaii, and one last thing from Sam’s past will come back to haunt her. Oddly enough, a new mission is exactly what she and Nathan may need at that point in their lives. In this installment, the series shifts to a more action oriented book than in the past while still putting a large effort into focusing on the relationships between its characters. Wrong Mission is the beginning of the end, and when it’s all over, Nathan and Sam will be left with a choice that truly defines their entire future.
I loved every minute of writing this book. It has many ups and downs full of action and romance, but that’s not what makes it special to me. I loved seeing how it ended and knowing that this one sets up a definite ending for a story that has been so great for me to be able to write. I would love to share more with you guys, but that might be a little difficult. Normally, I would share the cover with you, but I’m going to do something special over on my Facebook page. I have 7 potential covers lined up, and I’m going to let the readers vote on which ones they like the best, so I don’t have a concrete cover right now. I can share one important detail with you, however. Wrong Mission will be released on January, 28th. I’m so excited for the 28th to come, and I hope you are, too. Just for fun, I’ll leave a little teaser from the prologue of the book below. Thanks for reading, and I’ll have more for you soon.
Just then, they heard footsteps on the front porch, and then they heard a loud bang on the door as it splintered open.

Support

When I first started writing, there was one thing that was missing. I didn’t feel like I could market my books well enough for them to be a success. The truth is that I still don’t. I’ve never kept up with trends, and I’ve never concerned myself with what others thought of me or the things I wrote until here lately. I learned slowly but surely how to get the word out, but it still wasn’t enough to get me to where I wanted to be. Fortunately, I discovered the most important thing about marketing recently.
The best way to sell any product is to sell yourself. Now, I know that may sound weird, but as I have made new friends, they have supported me. I have had friends, family members, and people that I previously didn’t even know give me their support over the last few weeks. Recently, my likes on my Facebook page have gone up, and I’ve found a brand new way to promote through my Street Team. I’m going to be honest. I never knew what a Street Team was before a friend told me I should have one. Now I have so many friends blasting my books.
I guess that I’ve learned two valuable things from this experience. One is that you can’t make someone support you. Many of the people you thought you were closest to will ignore everything about what you do. That’s okay. You have to move past that lack of support and believe in what you do. If they won’t even give something that means everything to you a chance, then you’ve just found out exactly who they are to you. Here’s the other thing you’ll learn. When you find people who are truly passionate about your work and who value you as a friend, hang on to them. Don’t do it because they help sell your books or because they add to your number of likes on Facebook. Do it because every relationship you form pushes you closer to where you want to be as a person. Do it because their support is what keeps you going when you don’t feel like you should even try anymore. You see, we often seek out the support of those closest to us, and unfortunately, some of them disappoint us. That’s all right, though. In my experience, there will always be a group of people who care for you and what you do more than anyone could ever ignore you or your books.
If I could go back a year ago and tell myself one thing, it would be this. Everything to do with people matters: every Facebook message, every giveaway, and every person who says they want to meet you. When you treat the people around you like you want to be treated, something amazing starts to happen. You find that people who used to be nothing more than strangers are your biggest supporters and more importantly, they’re the friends you always needed.

The point of this blog today was simple. I just wanted to thank all of my newly found friends. You guys have supported me in ways that I didn’t even know existed. I hope to do this for a long time, but no matter what happens in the future, it has been nice to see how people can be passionate, giving, and over all good. It’s not often that people will do anything for free or even be a friend unless something is in it for them. I don’t have as many supporters as a lot of famous authors do, but I do have one thing that they don’t. I have people who aren’t a number on a sales list and people I don’t think of as supporters or fans. I think of them as the rarest of friends. Thanks for everything, guys. I never imagined that I would find such great people around the world.

The Wrong Series From My Perspective

The next Wrong book is shaping up slowly but surely, so I thought that I would take some time to tell all of you what this series means to me personally. I guess I should start at the beginning. When I first started writing Wrong Place, I had no expectations, and I certainly wasn’t doing it for money. I simply started writing a story that included a lot more elements from my own life than some people may know. I wanted to make something different. I didn’t want to write the standard CIA novel, and I certainly didn’t want the book to be deathly serious all the time. I felt that a story should contain action, comedy, romance, and a lot of well-placed dialogue to make the characters bond in the way that we do in real life. I didn’t have any experience, so I truly didn’t know what I was supposed to do. Chapters were as long or short as I wanted them to be, and characters were just who they were without a single consideration as to what a reader would think. You see, I wrote Wrong Place, Wrong Time, and Wrong Life one after another, and I didn’t know if I would ever release them, so I wrote those books for myself. I think that I might have enjoyed writing those three books more than any other books. They pack so much of my fantasies, experiences, and dreams into three little packages. When I was done with the three books, I felt great about what I had done. The books weren’t what everyone wanted them to be, but they were exactly as I envisioned them.
A few months later, I released them on Kindle, and I got mostly good feedback, but a few people didn’t care for my work. I had always planned to write a prequel starring Zane, and when I began working on it, I tried to insert all of the things that people loved about the first three books and get away from the things that people didn’t like. I never sacrificed what my original vision was for the book, however. As I got closer to the finishing Wrong Regrets, some people started saying that I shouldn’t end the series. They wanted more Wrong, so I wrote a vague Epilogue that made it possible for me to continue the series. The only problem with the ending was that it required some explanation. Wrong Regrets was set five years after Wrong Life. The newest Wrong book, Wrong Fortunes, would go back to the past. It would be set directly after the events of Wrong Life. Some people didn’t understand why I would leave a cliffhanger at the end of Wrong Regrets only to write a book set before it. My thinking was simple, however. Wrong Fortunes took the first step in setting up a story that would explain everything about the ending of Wrong Regrets. It was a fun book to write. I was starting to get burned out when I wrote it, and I had a lot of personal problems in my life, but when I was back in Sam, Lee, and Trish’s world, I felt like everything else was background noise. You see, in a way, this series has served as a much needed escape for me. In that regard, the Wrong series will always have a special place in my heart. I suppose that it will probably always be my favorite thing that I’ve written because it was the beginning of all of this.
Now, onto the sixth Wrong book. Wrong Mission is the name of my newest book. I wrote this one with the final book in mind. At the end of it, you’ll probably be left with a lot of questions, but rest assured that everything will be answered in one final book after this one.
I’ve already written the final book, and I know for a fact that this will be the last one. I didn’t want it to be, but I wanted Wrong to go out on a high note, and I can say with confidence that it does. I made it so that I could never write another Wrong book, and that was hard, but I think it’s time for me to move on to new things. Besides, don’t Nathan and Sam deserve to rest at this point? Anyway, thanks for reading about what this series means to me and the process that led to all of these books. It has meant everything to me, and I can’t wait to let everyone in on the beginning of the end. Look forward to a cover reveal soon, and if you haven’t already read this series, then what are you waiting for? Go get it, and let me know what you think.
